Phantom Defense – 200 gr Specter
The 200 gr Specter is a purpose-built supersonic 8.6 Blackout cartridge engineered around the Barnes TAC-TX projectile — the same bonded copper-alloy platform underlying the 120 gr Specter in 300 AAC Blackout. Where the 120 gr established the standard for controlled expansion and weight retention in a compact supersonic package, the 200 gr variant scales that architecture to the 8.6 BLK bore diameter and the high rotational velocities produced by the 1:3 twist barrels central to the platform.
The 200-grain TAC-TX is a monolithic copper projectile with a polymer tip and scored nose cavity engineered for controlled expansion initiation across a broad velocity window. Monolithic construction eliminates the core-jacket interface entirely, ensuring near-100% weight retention and reliable four-petal expansion regardless of intervening barrier material. Phantom Defense loads the 200 gr Specter to 2,300 FPS, generating 2,349 ft-lbs of muzzle energy from a 12" barrel.
The cartridge is designed to function across service-pattern bolt rifles and properly configured gas-operated platforms, delivering repeatable feeding, extraction, and cycling without specialized tuning.
