Product Description

Performance Overview

Velocity: 2,397 FPS
Kinetic Energy: 1,531 Ft-Lbs

The 300 AAC Blackout "Specter" 120 gr is the ultimate supersonic round, engineered to set a new benchmark in performance for the 300 Blackout platform. Equipped with the advanced Barnes 120 gr TAC-TX projectile and a G1 ballistic coefficient of .358, this round delivers unmatched accuracy, energy retention, and supersonic capabilities.

Unmatched Supersonic Range

The Specter maintains supersonic velocities up to 700 yards from a 12.5-inch barrel and over 600 yards from an 8-inch barrel. This makes it the most capable supersonic 300 Blackout round available, perfect for precision shooting, tactical scenarios, and hunting in a wide variety of conditions.

NAS3 Casing Technology

Featuring lightweight NAS3 (Nickel Alloy Stainless) casing, the Specter enhances mobility by allowing shooters to carry more ammunition with less bulk. This advanced casing design also improves reliability, shot consistency, and durability, ensuring peak performance in every situation.

Key Features

  • Deep Penetration: Optimized for maximum penetration and controlled expansion.
  • Versatility: Ideal for hunting, tactical operations, and self-defense scenarios.
  • Precision and Power: Excels in long-range accuracy and terminal ballistics at close range.
  • Supersonic Excellence: Retains supersonic speeds beyond 700 yards, outperforming other 300 Blackout rounds.

Why Choose the "Specter"?

For those seeking the best supersonic 300 Blackout round in the world, the Specter offers unrivaled power, precision, and versatility. Whether you're targeting game at long distances or requiring devastating terminal performance in self-defense, the Specter delivers superior results every time. This round is ballistically superior to the 110 gr Rowdy Boi variant in all but the shortest barrels; in those cases the additional muzzle velocity of the lighter projectile provides an advantage. Universally though there is not a ballistically superior supersonic 300 Blackout round on earth.

    Correction to previous review

I meant Rowdi Boi's for the 110 grain rounds. I don't have the 85 grain Spicy Boi's. The numbers are still correct and I stand by everything else but I'm slightly stoopid sometimes. Whatever, this is the round to get from 25 yds and beyond.

Do all defense and hunting round

Posted by Andrew Murphy on Jun 6th 2026

I originally purchased for my Ruger American Ranch 16" as a primary hunting round. After three x10 rd. strings from three separate boxes from three separate orders, well, this round will be replacing the Spicy Boi's for home defense and everything in between. From a Faxon 7.5" Gunner 1:5 Twist with a Surefire Muzzle Break and Surefire 300 SOCOM SPS suppressor the average velocity for 30 rds. was 1,132 FPS resulting in 1,205 Ft. Lbs of Energy at the muzzle. For comparison, the velocity at 150 yds (2,018 from same setup) is comparable to brass cased Barnes 110 TacTX at the muzzle from my rig. As unfortunate as it is (I thought it'd be closer to 1,175), the 110 grain Spicy Boi's are only doing 1,151 FPS out of the same rig, so slightly faster with less energy. After 25 yds. there's not much point in sticking with the Spicy Boi's vs. the Spectre's. You're not going to be wrong in getting either one when they're in stock, but I'm strictly going for these from here on out. One last thing, unless you have a magical shoulder that can measure recoil and have actual tools to measure recoil energy, you'd be hard pressed to convince anyone that there's a difference in recoil between any other round in the 110-130 grain range. That was one of the reasons I ordered the Spicy Boi's in the first place (Rocky Mtn Gun Club review), but I feel zero difference. Maybe you can out of you're setup, but mine feels like a slightly over gassed 11.5 5.56 carbine no matter the round. To sum it all up, it's a win.

Badass rounds. They are never in-stock so if you see them in stock scoop them up you won't regret it

For those who are interested. Didn’t have it in time for Whitetail season. Ran it over the Chrono on two 16” Rifles (Howa and TC Encore/Bergara barrel)Average Average 2425 fps at muzzle on both. Ran about MOA in the Howa with no shift from my 125 gr SST zero. Didn’t record the group on the TC.

    300 Blackout Specter

Shot a buck this morning with the 300blk Specter from a 16" barrel. Shot at 100yds....it dropped like a sack of potatoes. Bullet traveled through approx 15" of meat, organs, and bone and was lodged just under the hide on the opposite side....gnarly expansion. Thanks Phantom Defense.

I chose this round for my first year deer hunting in Minnesota rifle season, 300 blackout 7 inch barrel suppressed. First year got my first buck 200 pounds at 30 yards through the lungs and heart dear buckled at the knees! Thank you Phantom defense!

    Accurate and Deadly!

Posted by Christopher Appleton on Oct 29th 2025

This ammo is fantastic. I'm using a CVA Cascade bolt gun with a 16" barrel and a banish 30 can. Shot a 0.4 inch center to center group at 100 yards and 3.5 inch group at 300 yards off a bag, so it may be better with a better rest. Zeroed at 100, I'm getting a 2-3 moa drop at 200 and a 6-7 moa drop at 300. I used this ammo during the NY rifle season and got two doe, both around 100 yards. This stuff is deadly, one dropped, the other only went 15 yards. The bullets when all the way through and the exit wounds looked like what a magnum rifle does. I was picking a bunch of pieces of bone out as I was gutting, just devastating. I would trust this ammo to make an ethical kill out to 300 with the right shot placement. Incredible stuff, thanks guys.

Have purchased eight boxes of "Specter". Looks perfect, zero stoppages of any kind, accurate, and hot! Chrono's at 2184 fps in my 9" BCM and 2073 fps in my 6.5" V Seven.
